Description

An eye-catching ceramic candle holders with coral-pink hibiscus flowers on a green background, by Moorcroft. Sold as set of 2

History:
This striking candle holder was made by Moorcroft, a leading manufacturer of decorative art products in the early to mid-20th century, taking their influence from Art Nouveau floral designs. This candle holder has an imprinted ‘Made in England’ on the base and a paper sticker which reads “By appointment, Moorcroft, potters to the late Queen Mary” (the wife of George V). The pattern ‘Coral Hibiscus’ was produced between 1968 and 1978; the Royal warrant expired in 1978.

Description:
The oval candle holder is a typical Moorcroft example of tube-lining, with raised lines defining the pattern. The whole surface is hand-painted, with a dark olive green background, decorated on each end with a single large orange-pink hibiscus flower with green-yellow leaves in between.
