Another event I went to during my stay in Bratislava, was opening of a new store in the center. Ton was created, under different name, in 1861, a bent furniture plant was opened in Bystřice pod Hostýnem and today it is among the oldest in the world. Its founder Michael Thonet, whose name the plant bore, chose this place. Surrounded by beech forests offering enough material for the manufacturing process, Bystřice pod Hostýnem also saved on transportation and labour costs thanks to its location. In 1953 it was renamed as TON (the abbreviation standing for Továrna Ohýbaného Nábytku – bent furniture factory). You can read about the full history of the company here.
All this furniture is available for you in the UK; just say you like it and I source it for you.
